Baby Bongo is Bada**. :)
I was inspired by some video clips of Dave Larue (now with Joe Satriani, previously with John Petrucci) playing a Bongo ... then I found someone selling this one, which is actually quite dinged up in places. Got a great price for this bad boy.

The best thing is, with the dual humbuckers and FOUR TONE KNOBS (the dual-concentric stacks in the photo) I can get a much broader range of tones now, which I really need for our church band as the music is so varied (rock, gospel, some R&B-tinged stuff, etc.) I'm told this bass will get classic Stingray and Jazz Bass tones with a simple turn of the pickup blend pot, but the funny thing is I can't get that great zing that I got from the Mustang. Ah well, it will be an excuse to buy another someday ...

I had a Fender Mustang bass, which was a great bass to learn on. It is now in the hands of a fellow GN member. Win win!

I helped a friend set up his Mustang this week, and dang that short neck and lightweight body are so nice! The Bongo is great, but I miss the ease ...
And, I'll be back in short-scale land by the end of the year ... 8)
