Heyo, I played a 12 string for the first time at guitar center yesterday. Was wondering, would an octave pedal achieve the same effect?

Thanks

Simply put, no.

It's only the lower (voiced) 3 strings that are octaves. The G, B & E are unison tuned.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

The Jellifish pick thinger is supposed to replicate that sound. I have one, can't make it work right though. Maybe you can try it. For $10 you can't go wrong to play around.

Honestly, no. Because of the alternate octave tunings of the12th-11th, 10th-9th, and 8th-7th strings and the fact that 6th-5th, 4th-3rd and 2nd-1st strings are tuned to exactly the same octave, even using one of those picks that U2Bono269 mentioned, you'll NEVER get a true 12-string sound without playing an actual 12-string. Aren't they cool sounding, though? I just LOVE mine and play it often.

I've gone so far as to "High String" my guitar it's not the same but it satisfies my erge for that 12 string sound.

My "G" is octave tuned.

You could also look into a 9 string.
