I was changing my strings earlier and I can't get the 6th string to tune, it keeps showing up on my tuner(Korg GA-30) as 5A or 7B. My tuner is working fine, I went to chordbook.com and played with the tuning, and my tuner picked that up just fine. Anyone have any clues what it going on?
Thanks
I hate tuners that don't let you select a note. That aside, is your guitar's volume turned all the way up?

possibly sympathetic resonance on one/more of your other strings? there's a post on this in the repairs section. try making sure you've muted all your other strings, then play the note. alternatively, you might resort to tuning by ear, fretting the 6th string at the 5th fret should produce the same note as your 5th string played open, provided your 5th string is in tune.
make sure the guitar's volume is full up.
mute all other strings
check the winding at the pole.
or
hit the harmonic on fret twelve.
whenever I do that the tuner goes right there. no hunting at all.
My suggestions:
Unwind the string almost all the way and make sure that you've bent the string at a 90 degree angle at the post.
Don't put more than 2-3 winds of string on the post
Check the battery in the tuner
pluck the string you are tuning at the 13th fret
mute the other strings
put the tuner close to the source of the sound, either amp or soundboard
turn off any effects if you have them, including delay and chorus
good luck
pluck the string you are tuning at the 13th fret
Eh? What? No wonder my guitars sound weird....I pluck 'em at the 12th....
:D :D :D

13 Steps is a movie
12 frets is where the harmonic is for tuner reading a heavier gauge string
hmmm, you pluck them at 13 to deaden the harmonic. If you pluck at 12 you might strike the harmonic.
The heck if I know. I make this stuff up as I go along.
Then again, I don't have a problem tuning MY E string.
Nick. I am trying to put my head around this 13 thing. yes, it would mute, but then you are tuning sharp?
take my acoustic , for example, although I can plug it in and tune, soometimes I don't want to hassle getting up and finding a cord.
I notice theat the lights on the tuner wander when I pluck a low E or A string. then when I hit the 12th fret harmonic the light or needle settles right down and points to where I am at in tuning.
oh...oh.....it's all clear to me now. Pluck the open string over the 13th fret, don't fret the string at the 13th fret.

Sure. Why not? It's my unbirthday.

Alice hadn't thought about the mushroom thing for ages, and thought she was being called to the podium to receive her award for completing the 12 fret program.
"One last task", said the mad hatter. "First you must tune this!"
Alice stared at the 12 string manjolin in his hands.
"What key shouldl I tune it to?"
"Why, the one that unlocks the 12th fret" explained the Queen of Harps.
Alice suddenly missed the caterpillar (and his hookah) very much.
