I have a nice acoustic plug-in Ibanez, and I'm considering getting an electric plus nice amp to play with effects and whatnot, but I'd like to understand the overlap between an acoustic and electric guitars. Can one use an acoustic electric to create effects with the proper amp? If not, why not?

in short , one word : FEEDBACK

you can get some nice effects but they will be primarily airy sounds. anything distortion related or heavy reverb will be difficult to control at best. (IMO)

am electric/acoustic going into effecs pedals dont work very well; espeically comapered to the results of an electric guitar into pedals.
chorus works noice on an acoustic.
if you want wacked out effects with an elec/acoustic recorded the acoustic hen with a computer wack out the sound.
