I used to have a gibson sg that had really good action. I have small hands and am now looking for something besides my accoustic which is hard for me to play. (not only small hands, but short index finger, which is slightly artritic)Im thinking about getting a epiphon sg special or g-310 sg as a practice guitar.
My question is, what does sg mean? do all SGs have 24 3/4 fret boards..
and what does 24 3/4 mean?
do you have a better suggestion? :?

SG, believe it or not, stands for Solid Guitar - Gibson was real inventive about naming models, huh?

24-3/4 is the scale length, from nut to bridge. It's a standard dimension for Gibson at 24-3/4; that makes it a bit shorter than the Fender standard of 25-1/2. Shorter scale length means less string tension (for the same gauge string tuned to the same note), so Gibsons are often favored by folks who want a light touch or who do radical bends.
