By no means would I call myself a beginner, however there are some things that I believe I have missed in my studies on the Guitar. One for instance would be melody. What makes a strong melody? I realize that this is a very broad subject almost impossible to tackle but none the less it is a challenge that I am puting forth for you. Only for your wisdom and help of course.
No words no explination just music
Well no replies so i'll have a stab and see if it provokes a response!
To me, a strong melody is one that sticks in your mind / ears even from the first time you hear it. It needn't be complicated, or even consist of many notes. But it has to be memorable.
think of the first few bars of Let it Be. As soon as you hear it, you know the song straight off, and the chances are you'll be humming it most of the day too.
That's all i can think of right now...

I agree with Matt.
And some are easily recognizable just from a few notes.
Take this beginning of a Beatles tune for example.
Play G on your 6th string and C,B, A on your 5th string. all 8th notes and let the lat note ring.
Can you name that tune?
