The band teacher at my school just taught me this version (VERY Simple) of Jingle Bells...however he didn't have time to show me the rest. I started playing with the school band and the kids LOVED!

I would like to learn the rest of it but I don't know how to get it in this key (I think it's D since he thinks I was starting on D)

G-------7-7-7------7-7-7------7-10-3----5-7-------

If someone could help with the rest I would like to surprise the kids next week...

Thanks

Hey Mike.. it might be more involved that you are looking for at the moment but I saw an article on the homepage from Noteboat, I believe. In it he gives an arrangment of Jingle Bells. You might check it out.

Hereit is

Good luck

Jingle Bells is a very easy song to pick out the melody by ear.

Humm it, then play it.

All of the notes are diatonic (that is, they are in the scale), so just pick your favorite scale to work in, and you should have it with just a little work. Once you have it in one key we can easily show you how to transpose it to a new scale if you don't know the scale for D (or whatever key you want to be in).

I know you probably are screaming at me right about now "I just want some help not a dang lesson" But in all honesty this is exactly the best way there is to build your ear for more demanding musical tasks.

It won't take you long, and you really will get a lot out of it!

Well since I want to surprise them by NEXT week and this is aHOLIDAY week I don't have time to do it myself...

I guess I'll just wait until the band teacher shows me

Geo, I saw that but the band teacher wanted me to keep it simple for the kids...the one string version is best.

I agree with Jason -- you have a week and frankly it won't take you an hour.

Well even if Mike doesn't want it, does anyone have a good clean midi file? Cause I can't even hum the same note twice :

If you don't want to try to figure it out on your own try this one Mike. I realize it is not just 1 string but it will sound better. You can move it up to the 4th string if you like.

There is a one string tab somewhere online.

I was too lazy to look  and since I had tabbed this out a long time ago and compared it to others I found I was just offering it. My original version was on 4 strings. There is actually a tab out there almost if not identical to mine.

Thanks Nils....one question though...would this be the same key as the example I gave? The kids only know this key (I apologize I can't remember the key but I believe it's D.

As for everyone else...I understand what you are trying to do. But mnay don't understand that I don't WANT nor have the time to spend on theory and ear training at the momment. I just want to play my favorite songs right now. I have mentioned this several times and have been criticized for it as well. I am sure I'll get criticized again...I just want the PHYSICAL skills I need to play the songs I like.

Possibly 3 months from now I'll change my mind..I do that often. I understand that ear training and theory are valuable tools. But until I have the time to devote to it that it deserves I won't even attempt it.

I just want to play my favorite songs right now . . .
I just want the PHYSICAL skills I need to play the songs I like.

Every person on the planet who can move their fingers has the physical skills they need to play the songs they like. School bands are filled with kids who have the skills necessary to play any song you put in front of them. But it's only those people who develop their ear who become musicians capable of playing songs well enough that they are worth listening too.

I don't mean this as a personal criticism, but rather an observation. No one can become a good musician over-night. Instant gratification, however enticing the promise, is a myth. Developing a musical ear is essential to playing well on every instrument. After all, music is about making sounds that sound good. It is with our ears that we "see" our efforts.

A musician who hasn't developed a musical ear is like a blind painter.

From what I can tell from that tab. The song is in the key of C major since none the notes are are sharps or flats.

The reason I said you can move it up to the 4th string is because I believe that would make it the key of D just at a lower pitch.

You can also use it to make the same pattern you already have, In other words make the open E in mine equivalent to the G 7th fret in yours and see if you can work out the remainder of yours from mine.
