A quick question about palm muting...
where should my hands rest, and how hard should they rest on the strings.
The side of your palm should rest just a little bit forward of the bridge (toward the headstock). Too far forward and you'll mute the strings too much (a dull thud), too far back and you won't mute them enough.
How much pressure you use depends on how much muting you want. Usually it's a balance. Turn up the distortion and play around with power chords and you'll soon find the right hand position and pressure.
that's the beauty of palm muting. vary the pressure. experiment.

mute heavy, mute light. each technique has it's qualities.
sometimes I let the strings vibrate a nanosecond and just before they come on to full I mute .
. it has the effect of holding back a mad dog.
When palm muting your not going to get a full strum so pick 3 or 4 strings to strum and call it good of course they'll be a funtion of the chord your fretting.
