roxanne [help?] lost at sea

im a beginner guitarist
i pick stuff up pretty easy but my fretting is my weakness
so, im trying to learn roxanne by sting. and i cant get the right kind of sound :shock:
what can i do to improve the tone? what kind of strumming should i use?

As far as tone, it sounds as if he's got quite a bit of reverb and maybe a little delay and phase shifter happening. I've never tried to exaclty replicate his sound, but this clip will give you a great head start:

I don't play the song (or any song for that matter) too well myself, but a D DU D D strumming pattern seems to work well for Roxanne.
