I advise my beginning students to dab a bit of rubbing alcohol on the finger tips. My thought is that by drying up some of the oils, it promotes hardening faster, and assists in the formation of calluses. The idea is not to overdo it where it cracks or something, just a little touch, that has seemed to help our students over the years.

Alcohol is for drinking and guitars are for playing.....just my opinion
play, rest, play, rest.....keep your strings clean and keep playing....if you aint got your calluses by now i'll be surprised :D
