Dear forum readers...

Does anyone know the strumming pattern for the song "If you could only see" by Tonic.
I have a real hard time figuring it out.

I know that there are at least two different patterns.

Hope anyone can help.

hi mate never heard the song and unfortunately I don not have audio on the pc (I'm at work), anyway watching the video it seems that he is alternating between a basic sixteen notes pattern like

dd/ddu/dd/ddu

or slight variations of it (note that he is accenting 2nd and 4th beat downstrums)

and some eight notes arpeggios

If the song is a sort of ballad they should work ok

cheers

Matteo

UPPERCASE letters mean full strums
lowercase letters mean a quick or partial strum (for effect)
/ means one strum while fully muted (so // means one down and one up, both muted fully)

Note: This is how I have played the song, and it sounds pretty much the same to me. The guy in the video embelishes bits with little strums here and there to give a kind of "live" sound, but this is the basic pattern;

The intro is; Dd D DUDU DU repeated as needed with a quick mute on the first upstrum each time (kinda hard!)

the verse is; Dd UUD UUD DU 3 times then Du Du Du Du (do over as needed)

the chorus is; DD // // DD // // Dd Uu D DUDU (do over as needed)

the weird bit after the chorus (with the slide) is; D(slide)DuD /////// D(slide)DuD /////// DdUUDdUUDdu DUDUDU (do over as needed)

the bit at 3.32 in the video (the bridge perhaps?); D D D Du Dd once then UUD UUD DU 3 times (do over as needed)

then the same verse part again but with mainly the bass strings being muted

then the verse part again as normal, with the last few stums slowed and let ring.

Hope that helps, strum patterns are always kind of hard to write down - I suggest taking each part which I've written above and going over it until you have it (especially the verse part as that is the base of the song) before you move on to the next bit.

Pete
