Hey I keep seeing a little symbol above tabs here and there, and i have no idea what it means.
it kinda looks like an upside down U surrounding a dot. if anyone knows what it means id be grateful if you could explain..

if you dont know what i mean by that lame explanation, this url https://www.guitarnoise.com/lessons/i-shot-the-sheriff/ is a david hodge lesson on 'i shot the sheriff' and right near the bottom is a bit of tab with the symbol at the end.

thanks in advance

Welcome to the Musical Madhouse.

Do you mean this bit:

?

If so, that's a fermata, which is a symbol in standard notation, that means "hold or pause, or even stop now it's the end of the song".

You might want to check out How do you read and write tab by Howard Wright. It's a helpful guide to tab.
