I Should Have Known Better - Beatles

OK a fairly simple acoustic song from the "Hard Day's Night" soundtrack......

Intro.....

C/G/C/G (repeat)

(C)I....(G/C/G)should've known(C)better with a G)girl like (C)you,
(G)That I would (C)love everything that you (Am)do,
And I (F)do, hey hey (G)hey, and I do....

repeat intro....

(G)Oh oh (C)I.....(G/C/G) never rea(C)lised what a (G)kiss could (C)be,
(G)This could (C)only (G)happen to (Am)me,
Can't you (F)see, can't you (G)see,

Chorus......

(Am)That when I (F)tell you that I (C)love you, (Em)oh,
(Am)You're gonna (F)say you love me (C)too-oo-(G)ooo-oo-(C)ooh,
Oh-oh,(F)And when I (G)ask you to be (C)mine, a-ha-ha...(Am)
(F)You're going to (G)say you love me (C)too.

The next verse follows the same pattern as the first two verses....

Oh oh I never realised a lot of things before,
If this is love you've got to give me more,
Give me more, give me more....

And repeat the chorus, repeating "you love me too" a few times....

And here's a nice bit of trivia for you.....when the Beatles played this in the film "A Hard Day's Night" they did it in the Guard's wagon of the train....one of the schoolgirls watching them play was Patti Boyd, who later became Mrs Harrison, then went off with Clapton, and inspired "Something", "Layla" and "Wonderful Tonight"......

Anyway....have fun with this.....

Vic

And a further bit of useless information....this was the song I so desperately wanted to play, I learned how to play an F chord.....

:) :) :)

Hey great song Vic,

From one of John's most creative periods, he definitely had the edge over Paul then.

I've had a quick strum but it's a little tricky, maybe I played it too fast, a common propblem I have.

Can't try it out tomorrow, got to build a summerhouse before the winter sets in. No joke I really have too! Have you seen the forecast! "I should have known better" Oh to be in England now that spring is here!

Thanks again Vic.

Chris

The guitar is all right John but you'll never make a living out of it! (John Lennon's Aunt Mimi)

Awesome song! And a great scene in A Hard Day's Night.

"Don't worry son, we'll get you the best lawyer green stamps can buy." -John
"Ho ho! It's a laugh a line with Lennon! Anyway, this is all your fault." -Paul
"Me?" -Ringo
"Why not you?" -George

And, this is a good song to get one's feet wet with a bit of a solo. Play it after the second chorus before going into the verse. It's very easy, and pretty much follows the melody of the verses. Just listen to the song to pick up the rhythm, and make it your own. By the way, it sounds great on a 12-string.
