Really simple song, just basic strumming on the chords. To make things easier, add a capo on the 2nd fret.

ONE HEADLIGHT - The Wallflowers

INTRO: G D F# Bm (X2)

G D
So long ago I don't remember when
F# Bm
That's when they said I lost my only friend
G D
They said she died easy of a broken heart disease
F# Bm
As I listened through the cemetery of trees
G D
I've seen the sun coming up at the funeral dawn
F# Bm
I've long broken all of human law
G D
It always seemed like such a waste, she always had a pretty face
F# Bm
I wonder why she hung around this place

G G F# F#

CHORUS:

G D
Come on try a little, nothing is forever
Em A
There's got to be something better than in the middle
G D
With me and Cinderella, put it all together
Em A A G D F# Bm
We can drive it home with one headlight

JUST REPEAT THE CHORDS FOR THE VERSES:

VERSE 2:
She said it's cold it feels like Independence Day
And I can't break away from this parade
But there's got to be an opening somewhere here in front of me
Through this maze of ugliness and greed
I've seen the sign up ahead at the county line bridge
Saying all is good and nothing less it's dead
Running till she's out of breath she ran until there's nothing left
She hit the end it's her window ledge

CHORUS

SOLO: G D F# Bm (X2)

VERSE 3:
This place is old feels just like a beat up truck
I turn the engine but the engine doesn't turn
With smells of cheap old wine and cigarettes this place is always such a mess
Sometimes I think I'd like to watch it burn
So alone I feel just like somebody else
Man I ain't changed but I know I ain't the same
But somewhere here in between these city walls and dyin' dreams
I think her death it must be killing me

DIFFERENT CHORUS:

G D
Come on try a little, nothing is forever
Em A
There's got to be something better than in the middle
G D
With me and Cinderella, put it all together
Em A G D F# Bm
We can drive it home with one headlight

ENDING: G D F# Bm G

Are the chords in relation to the capo or barre forms with the capo to make it easier?

Your wording has me a little confused.

These are the real chords, you can put a capo to make the barre chords easier (making the intro become F C E Am, for example).

Here's an easy strum I worked out for this song that sounds good, let me know what you think.

Intro chords: DUUD until you get to Bm, which goes DUDUDUD

G D F# Bm
Verse: DU*U*U*UDU*U*U*UDU*U*U*UDUDUDUD and back to G

that's just the general idea, play each chord like that until you get to the change.

Chorus is just standard DDUUD or D*UUD or D*U*D

*=mute

I thought it sounded decent, I listened to the song, and playing that way catches the beat more than just open strumming.

Great job with the strumming. The mute is really what gives the groovy feel to the song.
