Kept this fairly simple as this is the EASY song data base, although there is more to it, this sounds great and is a good introduction to standard tuning slide guitar on the solo's

So anyway we start of quite steady for the first couple of verses and they should really be played like this
G D Em Em
e:|------3------2--------0-----------0--------
B:|-----(0)-----3-------(0)---------(0)-------
G:|-----(0)-----2-------(0)---------(0)-------
D:|-----------0--------2-----------2-----0----
A:|----2----0------0h2---------0h2---------2--
E:|--3----------------------------------------

although you can get away with a very slow strum on each chord if you play them once only

(G)I'm gonna (D)clear out my (Em)head

(G)I'm gonna (D)get myself (Em)straight

(G)I know it's (D)never too (Em)late

(G)To make a brand (D)new start(C)

(G)I'm gonna (D)kick down the (Em)door

(G)I'm gonna (D)get myself (Em)in

(G)I'm gonna (D)fix up the (Em)yard

(G)And not fall (D)back again (C) (G)

Now, after the last C chord play the G as if to build the up an intro to the next verses playing it progressivley louder

(G)I'm gonna (D)clear up my (Em)earth

(G)And build a (D)heaven on the (Em)ground

(G)Not something (G)distant, (Em)unfound

(G)But something (D)real to me (C)

(G)But something (D)real to me (C)

CC DDDDDDD CC DDDDDDD/slide up to solo

The first guitar interlude goes here
Barre a C play a down stroke then an up then slide
To a barred D, strum that note fairly fast down and up
Strokes for the space of one bar then slide straight
Into the 12th fret of the B string to start the solo
You can do it using open chords but I think it sounds
Nicer sliding into the D as it sets up the slide feel
For the solo
If you can play it using a slide please do, but if not it will sound well enough using gliss style

e:|---------------------------------------|
B:|--/12-12-12-12/-15-15b(17)r-12~~~~~---|
G:|---------------------------------------|
D:|---------------------------------------|
A:|---------------------------------------|
E:|---------------------------------------|

D:|-------------------------------14------|

B:|--/12-12-12-12/-15------12~~~~---------|
G:|---------------------------------------|
D:|---------------------------------------|
A:|---------------------------------------|
E:|---------------------------------------|

(G)All that I (D)can, I can (Em)be

(G)All that I (D)am I can (Em)See

(G)All that is (D)mine is in my (Em)hands
(
G)So to myself (D)I call (C)

(G)There's somewhere (D)else I should be (Em)

(G)here's someone else (D)I can (Em)see

(G)There's something more (D)I can (Em)find

(G)It's only (D)up to me (C)

(G)I'm gonna (D)clear up my (Em)earth

(G)And build a (D)heaven on the (Em)ground

(G)Not something (D)distant, (Em)unfound

(G)But something (D)real to me (C)

(G)But something (D)real to me (C)

CC/DDDDDDD CC/DDDDDDDD/ slide up to solo

Second guitar break here do as before,if you can
Barre a C play a down stroke then an up then slide
To a barred D, strum that note fairly fast down and up
Strokes for the space of one bar then slide straight
Into the 12th fret on the B string to start the solo

e:|---------------------------------------|
B:|--/12-12-12-12/-15-15b(17)r-12~~~~~---|
G:|---------------------------------------|
D:|---------------------------------------|
A:|---------------------------------------|
E:|---------------------------------------|

e:|---------------------17-15----15--12-------------|
B:|--/12-12-12-12/-15---------------------15--12~~~~~-|
G:|---------------------------------------------------|
D:|---------------------------------------------------|
A:|---------------------------------------------------|
E:|---------------------------------------------------|

e:|-----------------------------------------|
B:|--15/-12-12-12-12h13p12------------------|
G:|-------------------------14--12----------|
D:|--------------------------------14~~~~~--|
A:|------------------------------------------|

G:|-------------------------------------|
D:|-------------------------------------|
A:|-------------------------------------|
E:|-------------------------------------

Then the final verse slowing the song right down to the close

(G)I'm gonna (D)clear out my (Em)head

(G)I'm gonna (D)get myself (Em)straight

(G)I feel it's (D)never too (Em)late

(G)To make a (D)brand new start (C)

(G)To make a (D)brand new start (C)

I hope you enjoy this one as much as I do, its a superb ballad by one of the greatest songwriters of our time

Nice one Rodders, this is one of my favorite Weller tunes as well.

I have the tab for how he plays the verses on Days of Speed, its really nice and not hard at all.

Do you want me to post this on this thread as well? I don't want to steal your thunder mate!

Good job though, nicely laid out.

Cheers

Matt

Yeah, go for it Matt. As far as I'm concerned we are all in this together, so don't worry about stealing anybody's thunder. There is'nt enough Paul Weller songs here.

What I would really like though is the tab for "The Weaver" and the intro tab for "Peackock Suit".

Thanks for the good review

Nice one Rod,

Good to see you getting feedback, especially after the effort you've put in on this. I like Paul Weller but I have to confess havn't any of his music except Wildwood. I really am out of touch.

About the jamming invite, hows this Sunday coming sound to you.

Keep em coming Rod!

Chris.

The guitar is all right John but you'll never make a living out of it! (John Lennon's Aunt Mimi)

Below is my rendition of the intro to peacock suit....
Quite easy and sounds great loud pref with an overdriven bridge SG humbucker !!!!

Hope it helps

e: |---------------------------1-----------|
B: |----------------------------1----------|
G: |------------------------------0--------|
D: |------5-3------------------------------|
A: |-3-5-------5-3-1----------------------|
E: |-------------------3-1-3---------------|

The above is the way I play Peacock suit intro and sounds
ok straight but see notes below for a more authentic and passionate weller rendition played loud the slides etc sound nice
hammer on from the 3rd to fifth fret on 5th string
play rest straight till you get to the 531 sequence on the 5th string and then slide from the 3rd fret to the 1st
When you get to the open 3rd string give some trem jiggle or if you dont have a trem wang the neck back and forth or use your index finger on fretting hand in front of the nut at the headstock (ie not on fretboard) to move the 3rd string up and down for the "jiggly Sound" without it you aint gonna get the authentic modfather sound :)

I love using the headstock and index finger trick for open string wiggles its much more controlable than my wammy bar obviously wont work if youve got a locking nut but if youve got one of them youve probably also got a pointy headstock so wont want to be playing Weller stuff LOL

Dont give a shite about punctuation or spelling , I have to do that all day at work.
Free times for rocking !!
