Hey,

I'm looking for ideas on how to "smooth out" a distorted tone. Still want it tough sounding, just a little mellow. I'm playing a strat, with a Marshal G10 through a Behringer X V-Amp.

Thanks for any ideas

Try the delay on your V-amp.

I'll try some tweaks with the delay, thanks. I'm a little surprised about that though. It seams like it justs make the sound echo.

If you're using the V-amp's amp models, set the Marshall to the cleanest setting you can. Set the eq flat. Also, I'm not if the V-amp has it, but if it has the cab-modeling, try either having it off.

Ok,

So far I've had gain and tone on my marshall about half. I'll go clean tonight (with delay) and see how it sounds.

Well, I use a little bit of delay only for my lead playing to get a softer sound. I don't use it with clean settings or when playing rythm, because that would only make it sound messy.

Hm, I guess I would lower the tone knob on the guitar or/and lower the treble on the amp.
