I'm learning Coldplay's "In My Place" and I'm having trouble with the timing in this measure. Can someone please help me out with this? I took a picture of the measure and it's posted at the above findapix site. Thanks!

Well, it's in 4/4 time and contains all common rhythms. The first note is sustained over one beat... the next two notes are one dotted eighth note and one 16th note, it takes alot of practice but if you divide one beat into four you'll get what a 16th note sounds like, a dotted eighth note should last for the length of 3 16th notes. The best solution for you, i think, would be to get a program like powertab editor, so you can hear what the rhythms sound like, once you understand what they sound like, you'll be easily be able to reproduce them and read them right off the bat.

Counting sixteenths is done with four syllables - I use One-ee-and-ah-two etc.

With the count written out using 1 e & a to represent the syllables, the measure you show would be (bold are the strums):

1 e & a 2 e & a 3 e & a 4 e & a
