Here's one I started some months ago after a conversation with my daughter's ex's mother.
I was inspired to revisit it after reading Hairballxavier's Sewer Water (Sunday Songwriters Group Wk 22) Check it out. Good stuff!
Jump Before You Fall
You keep askin' me to save you
You say your back's against the wall
You keep beggin' for rescue
That takes an awful lot of gall
'Cause the way you're actin' lately
Your gonna to jump before you fall
You say that it's all different
You quit the whiskey wine and gin
You ask me to forgive you
But can you confess your sin
'Cause you've been sleeping with the dragon
You're on the needle once again
(bridge)
Well the Methadone don't help you
That time in rehab what a joke
And what about your children
When's the last time that you spoke
You keep askin' me to save you
You say your back's against the wall
You keep beggin' for rescue
That takes an awful lot of gall
'Cause the way you're actin' lately
Your gonna to jump before you fall
You're still hangin with that same crowd
You all got monkeys on your backs
You Keep tryin' to blame the system
Say it's compassion that it lacks
Then I find you on the corner
Tryin' to cop another sack
Still You keep askin' me to save you
You say your back's against the wall
You keep beggin' for rescue
That takes an awful lot of gall
'Cause the way you're actin' lately
Your gonna to jump before you fall
Yes the way you're actin' latley
You're gonna jump before you fall
Celt
You're still hangin with that same crowd
You all got monkeys on your backs
Can't quit in a room full of monkeys. You can't quit using if you are hanging with users. Nobody is gonna watch your back
That time in rehab what a joke
The funny thing is that rehab can cause more problems that it solves. Little Johnny gets caught with a joint and agrees to rehab in lieu of jail time. There he is introduced to new friends with real problems in "group therepy". They have something in common. None of them want to be there so they have a sense of camaraderie. Johnny now has some new crack, meth, and heroin using friends.
Thank You,
I thought I might have pushed things a little too far with this one.
Being a little too close to this story and needed to know if I got it right.
Thank you again for responding after all you did inspire me to finish what was not much more than germ of an idea.
Celt
Celt, that is one awsome song. Hate the circumstances that surround it but I think you got the feeling down on paper quite well.
Keep it up!!
Jim
