are you aiming toward having songs in album format or just a heap of completely separate songs?
when i started i was just 'doing my thing' until i realised i could put together enough songs for an album, which i did. once i did that i realised that some songs were jsut in a different vein than others and they could start the second album. doing that really gave my songwriting focus and a direction to take it. its helped me a lot, thought it could help you to
