Hi!

Some of might know me from the Sunday Songwriters forum, I've written
this song which I'd like to have some comment on. So don't hesitate to tell me what you think!
I also made a recording of this song. You can listen to it on
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/7/stefanzomersmusic.htm

Someone to Love

I used to live my life in perfect ignorance
And everything was grey in perfect innocence
But then you came along and you taught me how to play
I did not feel the hole inside my heart until that day

And for the first time there my heart was split in two
There's nothing more addictive than someone loving you
Now I can't live without it, I cannot live like before
There's nothing else to die and nothing else to live for

Everyone needs someone to love (chorus)
Everyone needs someone to love
Everyone needs someone to love
And I…
I…?
I need you!

Now I can't make it on my own
I used to think that I could learn to live alone
I thought that I was right and I might just be alright
But here I am, on my knees, I need you by my side

(chorus)

I want you – ou – ou – ou (bridge)
I want you – ou – ou – ou
I want you I want you I want you I want you
I want you – ou – ou – ou

We cannot do it on our own
Who will keep you warm when you are all alone
I learned to live without you but I cannot let you go
I'm offering my hand, there is one dance I owe
You

(chorus)

Hey christiaan, cool song! Just out of curiosity, did you write the music before the lyrics?

The guitar backing is well composed and catchy. The cool thing I thought about this song was that in your lyrics there is the idea of everyone needing someone, which isn't telling a story but more like capturing a feeling... it's your music that relays a story, and that's an awesome combination. and I really like the chorus, lyrically simple but highly memorable!

Great work,
Jacqui :)

Thanks for the praise Jacqui, always good to hear someone connected to something I wrote.

I did write the music to the verses first. After that the melody to the verses. The chorus came naturally after the verse, all I had to do was match the chords I heard in my head.
One thing to add is that I threw away all my original verses and rewrote the whole song a week after I thought I finished it. The only lines that survived were the first two lines of verse three.

Thanks for the comment about the music telling the story, I was trying to do something like that but if never thought I succeeded doing that here.

Chris.
