Hey guys!!
I was wondering what the cliche of "burning bridges" means in songwriting?? I've heard in a few songs, but I don't know what is stands for. Any interpertation would be great!!! :)

It's usually a shortened version of the saying "Burning their bridges behind them". It comes from the military, having crossed a bridge, they'd often be told to burn it behind them. It was a good tactic, until you needed to go back, the way you'd come - there was no way, the bridges were gone.
Today, it, just, means leaving a situation in such a way that there is no going back. For example, you leave a job and, instead of being nice to your boss, you tell him what you think of him, in no uncertain terms - and make sure that the company would NEVER employ you again. That's a case of you "burning your bridges".
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

Thanks greybeard... that's been driving me crazy for a while, and have been dabbling in songwriting and wondering how to use it.
Thanks.
