I was bargain hunting when I found the EPI Les Paul Studio that fit my needs.
I have had this for about 4 months and it's hard to put down. Sound is great, playing it is typical Gibson. The look is unbeatable.

That and a hardshell case and you have a winning combo that is hard to touch for the price.
It also isn't near as heavy as a Gibson but sustain is awesome.

If Epi came out with a Les Paul Deluxe, lefty (with the smallbuckers), I'd be all over it.
...but not before a lefty Tele Standard. :)
if you want to avoid the brand issues with epi/gibson, you could go for a kramer. they're a division of gibson now and they still make quality instruments.
I don't want you to play me a riff that's going to impress Joe Satriani; give me a riff that makes a kid want to go out and buy a guitar and learn to play.

oops...double post.
anyways, upon more research, i found out that kramer is a division of gibson now  they still make nice instruments. our other guitarist plays a 2002 kramer "special" (it looks like a squashed sg) i have to say, it has a better feel to it than most of the gibsons i've played a gc
