Hey,
I'm tryin to learn exotic playing...Specifically exotic metal guitar I guess - but anyone can help me out here, not just metal players. What are some more exotic scales? I know harmonic minor, am learning phrygian dominant, and i know some Japanese scale that Becker n Friedman used (hirojoshi??). Any other exotic ones that spring to mind? Arpeggios too.

here's all ballpark example of the kinda thing im tryin to get at:

Also anyone know of any lessons, videos, etc on this kinda playing? I've already watched Marty Friedman's 'Exotic Metal Guitar' which was an awesome starting place...Anyone could learn a lot from that, not just metallers

this site may be right up your alley. it is pretty wild. there are lessons, scales, Tabs, all the while you play the game.
the site is

http://www.guitarshredshow.com

be patient and wait till it loads. then navigate around. you will find the different modes with lessons/ideas in each mode.
you use your keyboard to jam along...that is the game part. there is good info on this site.

If you're looking into "exotic" scales (only from the Western perspective as to some people these are the regular scales) you might want to look at the Guitar Grimoire series. I got two of these one year as an XMas present - the scales and modes book and the exercise book. I haven't used them that much but I did take some scale exercises from one of them. It's not that these aren't good but that my interests don't lie in shredding a million "exotic" scales.

Anyways, that series covers a lot of "exotic" scales with all the fingerings, arpeggios, etc. It covers every 5, 6, 7, and 8 tone scales that you can construct using Western tonality.
