What kind of practice amp would you recommend for a Gretsch 5120 hollow bodied guitar?? Want the clean sound of the acoustic but be able to replicate the sound of Zepplin and Gilmour. This guitar sounds awesome. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I sure do like to play my semihollow through a Valve Junior combo. It's pretty clean with the volume down. Hits full loudness with the knob about halfway, then gets crunchier till it makes a nice "classic rock" sort of distortion. It's pretty loud, though. To crunch it up at lower volumes, use an overdrive/distortion pedal like the Arion Tubulator that MF has periodically put on sale as low as $9.99.

I can't recommend it because I've never had one/played one -- but a lot of people seem fond of the Epiphone Valve Junior Tube: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-Valve-Junior-Combo-Amp?sku=480260
I'd personally want to play that hollow-body through something like a tube, and the Epiphone fits the bill. You could also check out the other lower-end tube amps, too. Vox makes one, I believe.

i have the Epi Valve Junior combo and it's great. ricochet nailed it.
I also have the Vox Valvetronix, and it's extremely versatile. with the 11 models, you cant miss a tube tone that'll fit the Gretsch, and it has an attenuator, so you can crank it at reasonable volumes.
both are winners, i'd say.
Well.
I think I nailed it too..

yes you did...i'm sorry, i wrote my post quickly and missed you. I mentioned ricochet because his comments on the tone pretty much match what I would have said about it.
We were typing at the same time. I clicked "Submit" a second or two sooner.

I think the morning I spent playing guitars in New York with David Hodge, I played a White Falcon through a Fender Frontman or something very similar. Certainly was an all-valve amp. To be honest, I was more interested in the Gretsch itself than the amp
