The song I am trying to figure out is "It's Up to You" on the Moody Blues' album A Question of Balance. There is a chord or two at the of the bridge that has my ears stumped. I even bought the Music Book for the album but that song is frustratingly omitted. Can anyone help?

Never hurts to try the usual suspects:

Pretty sure I'm missing at least one, I'm sure someone else will offer it up.

Hmm interesting. Actually didn't find the song on any of those just browsing. Thought the song might have a different name, but a google search brought up lyrics for that song instantly, and it's definitely called "It's up to you".

It's not in the songbook eh?

What's the deal with this song? Is it only on later releases of the album? Is it a hidden track? This seems unusual.

The songbook is actually a two-fer. The songs in it are from A Question of Balance and To Our Children's Children's Children , plus Night in White Satin and Ride My See-Saw thrown in. For whatever reason It's Up to You is omitted. The song is pretty straightforward, technically I guess it's in A, but the song starts on an E chord. The bridge is G#m and F#m and endds on a B I believe but there is something else in there that I haven't quite hit on.

Okee dokee then, I'm going to be pretty squeezed on time tonight, but I'll try and remember to look it up and see what I can make of it in the next few days.

My chord transcription abilities are pretty mediocre, so no results are guaranteed, but I'll help if I can.

Anyone else? Does anyone else have a book or a tab available.?

I was looking for the same thing a few years ago; no luck.

hmm, analyzing it tonight. Having only moderate luck. I'm pretty sure there's an intro sequence that's just D, C#m, B.

I can solo over most of the song in C# pentatonic minor, but a few odd harmonies have me questioning wheather it should be that or F# major or... I don't know.

I also think the roaming bass line is throwing me off. I could make up some chords that would sound fine underneath the words, but I don't think they would all be right. I'm going to see if I can't enlist some help.

The intro chords are D, A, and E.

The lick is in the 2nd pos. (1st finger on the 2nd fret).

For the first part of the lick hammer from the 2nd fret to the 4th fret on the 4th (D) string, then play the 4th fret two times without the hammer, then play the 2nd fret again followed by the 4th on the 5th (A) string, followed by the 2nd fret on the 5th string.

The timing of it is: 1 & 2 & & & (the hammer is between the "1" and the "&")

The second part of the lick is hammer from the 2nd to the 4th fret on the 5th string, followed by the 2nd fret on the 4th string, followed by a hammer from the 2nd to the 4th on the 4th string, followed by a pull-off back to the 2nd fret, followed by the 4th fret of the 5th string, followed by the D, A and E chords.

Gosh it would be easier if I just did a tab for it, but hope this gets you started.

Hey hey hey!
Tom Serb (NoteBoat here) was gracious enough to spend time transcribing this song, so here it is! A couple notes from Tom regarding the transcription:

-There are at least four guitar tracks that I can hear, maybe more, playing different voicings.

-I've played through it twice with the mp3, and the only part that might be off is in the last line - there's a hint of E after the B7 on "no reason to hide from what's true"

I realize that the format presented below is messed up. Either putting it in code or quotes does not fix the formatting, so I'll provide a direct download for the word document:

Thanks for all the help with this song. I have spent a lot of time working on this and I think that these are the chords.

I have put the chord changes over the words, but I am not sure whether they will appear where they are supposed to be or just all bunched up at the beginning of the line when I submit this. Hopefully you can listen for where the changes occur.

How does one post something so that spacing occurs properly?
