Can you help me, I am working on the melody for my song this week and the verses are just plain Am / Em / Am
G / Am
Em

Now this works really well with the tune, but I need some variety somewhere, change one verse or every alternate verse or the first 2 and last 2 the same and the middle two different, and I just can't fugure where to go from here.

Any ideas .........

Hard to guess without hearing what you are doing, but try a C or F7 in there somewhere. You're in the key of G, so the standard chords are:

G Am Bm C D Em Fdim(7).

You'll find that alot of stuff will work in a song that "shouldn't," such as an A chord vs. an Am. Just try lots of things and jot down what potentially works. Get a chord theory source, this will help take out some of the guesswork.

cheers, hope I helped.
