Hey, I'm in 10th grade and I have to do a presentation on any topic. I chose guitars. I'm looking to see what I should say in this presentation. Of course I only get 5 mins so the most basic stuff is a must. Besides the parts of the guitar, what else should I add?

Play one of your favorite songs.

I can't do that, it has to be informal.

You could talk about the different manufacturers, or even pick one of them and talk about how they got started, or what makes their production method so unique, and then mention some musicians who use those guitars. You could get all that from their websites.

I like the PRS story of how he was searching for a new guitar design and used to go to gigs of big acts selling them his guitars to try and telling them if they were unhappy at all they could return them for a full refund. ( I think, i can;t remember the exact story but it is on the website and is interesting). Then you could talk about how Santana uses PRS guitars etc.

Or you could talk about the different materials that can be used to make a guitar and how it effects the sound.

I reckon just check out a few manufacturers websites and read some of the articles. You should find lots of ideas of things to talk about.

I think a presentation on the guitar parts and what effect they have on sound(s) could fill 5 minutes.

a simple history of guitar would be an eye opener.
first there was the oud from Arabia back centuries ago.
the the European discovery in the 15th century; changing it to the lute.
to the Spanish/Portugese changing it to a guitar we know.
interesting stuff just a Google away.

You could cover the variety of sounds that can be made with a guitar--strumming, muted strumming and other rhythmic patterns, to fingerpicking, lead playing on bass and treble notes, to making bass sounds by banging on the guitar!

Do the presentation on why you picked guitar as the topic, let your enthusiasm for the topic fill the five minutes.

Do it right and by the time you've finished everyone will wish 'guitar' had been their topic.

Probably.
