We were trying "Between the Devil and the deep blue sea" in the band last week - an ukulele was deeply missed.

Time to rectify that:

This beauty did set me back around 50$. Think this is going to be fun!

Nice uke! It would seem that a lot of people around here lately are picking those up. Might me worthwhile for all of us too check them out.

just when I thought I had enough gear I realize I need one of those.

actually, Im thinking about a resonator uke from National.

ukes can be inexpensive. perhaps it's time to ukeup.

well, I guess Ukes come in different qualities too...

Mine seem to be made of ... a set of old binders painted brown or something like that ;) Costs about the same as 3 sets of D'addario strings here - nothing to lose sleep from.

Once I realised that the tuning is really like the top four strings on a guitar with a capo on 5th fret (although the 4th string is one octave higher), the chords come easy too. The next gadget has to be a Mandolin. They had a nice fender with mic at the shop...

Maybe I should consider starting http://www.ukulelenoise.com :D

A Uke and a mandolin might be cool to have at some point in the future. I am not sure how well they would go with my Doom/Stoner/Classic Rock with a hint of power metal recipe. Although, Led Zep did use some mandolins and other stringed instruments. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps!

Primeta, it is a Reno, it is "hand crafted" ;), and after I tightened the tuners it seems to stay OK in tune

I've been looking at a few Ukes at MF too. Maybe we'll have to start posting some Uke songs on the ESD too.

Here's a vid of a great Uke player that someone posted awhile back:

Something to aspire too!

Well as long as it stays in tune ok, never heard of Reno though.

I was looking at ukes on elderly, considering a flea, but I might wait for a true Hawaiian. I'd lover a Beltona or a National, but those National ukes cost more than most of my guits! Think I'd want a traditional sound to start with.

Really I hadn't realized how many types of ukes or the number of playing styles. Take a read of some of the uke forums

They don't all look like Mariachi.

I spent my lunch hour at a local guitar shop today (but that's another story), and he had a "flying V" ukulele sitting in the shop window.

How's that for a blend of ultra-cool and cheeze!
