So, I am desiring to replace the pickups in my Ibanez. it's a GRX70 with 2 stock humbuckers and a stock single coil in the middle. I am pleased with Dimarzio pickups and at this point, they are the leading contender.
But I am basically looking for other suggestions as well as reviews of pickups you have played. I am looking for a warm blues sound for the neck, and i want a nice, biting, snarling high output bucker for the neck. the middle pickup i never use, so i am most likely gonna leave it as it is.
I've also been looking at pickups that arent made by Dimarzio and Seymour Duncan, and I found Golden Age and TV Jones pickups on StewMac. What are these? Anyone tried them? and what did you think? I'm not against buying these pickups if could give me what i need.
These are my preliminary stages. When I am making a purchase such as this, I find it helpful to hear what recommendations other people have, and to hear their experiences.
thanks, y'all.
bump
you can't go rong with dimarzzio's, try an evolution in the neck and a paf pro in the bridge, i think you will find the sound your looking for 8)
even god loves rock-n-roll
a bump is appreciated. surely someone here has added after-market pickups to their guitar and can give some insight into their own thought processes? anyone?
thank you for the suggestion. we must have made our last posts at the same time. I will definitely research those 2 pickups. i had already had my eye on the Dimarzio paf pickup.
Harmony Central has a pretty big database of user reviews on pickups. Go there, and you should be able to find reviews about most of the pickups that you're considering.
aaah, i didnt know that. thank ya kindly.
anyone try the Dimarzio Humbucker from Hell?
one more thing...what does F-spaced mean?
IIRC, it's for Fender style string spacings.
i dont understand...fender style?
does this mean i cant use an fspaced pickup on my Ibanez?
Just a guess, but measure the string spacing on your guitar, and then look up the string spacing on a fender and a gibson. Compare them. And for the record, some of the polepieces on some of my guitars don't line up, and they still sound fine.
