My son and I played The Pusher by Steppenwolf tonight. Him on the drums. It sounded awesome. That kid picked up the beat in 15 seconds. Such fun.

darn, I'm jealous! My son's 7 and he's interested but not there yet.keep him interested by all means. Get him a little tamborine or some shakers he can beat along with. It will help his sense of rhythm and make him feel like he is playing along.

That's a GREAT IDEA, Ron!!!!!!

My seven year old is itchin' ta play, but he can't fret the strings that well. I got a keyboard, but that's not going over great, but in time he will get better.

I'm going to try the shakers because he and my three year old son can both mess with them.

Great idea, Ron!!!!!

Thank you!!!!! :D :D :D

Take them to the music store and let them poick out their own egg shakers, rhythm sticks ect. They really feel great about making the decision themselves. Really Motivates the little ones

Sounds like fun, we don't have any young-uns of our own, but I have a couple of nephews that I get to jam with now and then.

My 7 year old daughter has been taking piano lessons for about 3 months now. I am amazed at how musical she is, she's a natural and has picked it up very quickly. But what truly surprised me is when she started singing to her lessons. She has a beautiful child's voice and sings right on key.

I haven't played along with her yet, but I hope to soon.

So congrats, it is a wonderful thing when a parent can find an interesting hobby to share with their child.

Here's a great band in my area called the Johnny I band. The son plays great Blues guitar and sings, and his Dad plays the bass. These guys are good.

Johnny's Dad is cool. He always wears shades. 8)

I took Mick with me to Symphany Hall when he was 7. He's been into music ever since.

Great ideas - we've got the shakers, bongos, tamborine at home that he'll occasionally play. I talked with a friend who runs the local music store about pianon lessons and he's got student younger but mostly the girls (the whole attention span thing). Probably looking at something later this year. My son turn 8 in April - anyone have any thoughts / advise?

Any kind of program at the music store where he could take a lesson or 2 on some different instruments so he can find out which he likes? My daughter started on piano at about 6, learned recorder and Irish whistle at around 8 and is now showing some interest in guitar. She still plays piano and Irish whistle, but with each instrument it was her choice to learn it and I think that makes a big difference in how committed they are to learning.
