A microphone in front of the amp is just fine.
or a DI box.

If you don't go the microphone in front of the amp, you may want to get a DI box with cabinet modelling.
If you go direct out of your amp without some cabinet simulation, you may find the sound a bit flat.
The only problem with this DI box is that you really need to go into some kind of mic pre-amp, like on a mixer or on a multi-track recorder. You can get a XLR to 1/4" or 1/8" impedance transformer, like a little imp, but I don't know how good it will sound without a pre-amp stage.
I haven't looked at the Kristal Audio Engine yet, but I did play around with audacity a bit tonight and found it pretty easy to use. Thanks for all the suggestions!
