I don't know what happened, but after my heart procedure I have a hard time looking at my Mexican Strat and wondering why I have it. It started when I went to my local GC to get out of the house and when I walked in, there must have been 60-70 Strats and knock-offs by various manufacturers. I was saying to myself “Oh, there's mine…nope it's a (insert knock-off name here).â€
It's not GAS, I just can't look at my guitar and see any individuality, for lack of a better word.
Has anyone else had this before, and what can I do? I thought about modding it a bit; maybe a different pickguard. The body is electron blue with a white pickguard and the neck is maple (well like my avatar).
Any suggestions welcome.

Pick out a pickguard you like better, or maybe stain or "age" the one you've got if that floats your boat. Slap a "See Rock City" bumper sticker on it if you want to. Carve your initials on the headstock. Or just play it till you can't deny it's yours. :D

Thanks Ricochet! I had to look twice to make sure that was you, almost didn't recognize you without the beard. Looks good though. Shave it off for the summer?

I also own a strat. sunburst with maple neck and white pickguard. nothing extraordinary.
what is different is how good it plays and sounds.
that what matters. but I suppose it is easy for me to say, because I love the look.
I don't feel your dilema. mainly because you have a disticntive looking ax. that blue is killer.
if anything, just change the pickguard.
why not a clear one and then you can put something individual behind it. maybe your chart from the hospital; you know, badge of honor..I survived the heart thing.
stewmac.com has clear guards.
a good resource.
Yeah, it's still me, Jim-Bone.
I like the idea of a clear pickguard with something on the back of it. All sorts of possibilities there.
How about crinkly aluminum foil and flashing blue LEDs?

Here ya go...

maybe you can die it somehow and make it look like a stained glass window!
I kinda like my Red Mexican Strat with the maple neck and white pick guard.
Hey, since it's Mexican, maybe you could paint on the Virgin Mary.

Thanks again guys! You may be on to something with that clear guard.

Post a picture when you're done.
I got to thinking after posting, with all this stuff on the market (eg: enough Monopoly boards to fill any local library), why don't we find a way to customize pick guards. Some form fitting sticker program that we can print a picture and peel and stick.
I'll get to working on that. :P

that'd be cool.
thinking more. one can make there own water slide decals. speacial printing paper is needed. select an image, print.
you do need to seal the water soluble ink before you use the decal. there is a commercial product for that, but I think any clear spray would work.
but dont splatter paint. too much like spin art.
I have the same problem with my Strat, can't see any individuality. My problem is EVERYONE has one. It's stupid but can't get past it. You could always sticker yours up. Not sure if that's your thing.
when did you get a strat onewingangel?
I would hate the thought of stickering a guitar. the glue on that stuff gets nasty, real nasty, as it ages.
paint it instead.
I saw an abstract painted guitar recently. looked cool. it was in the style of Stuart Davis, a painter from the 40"s.
What about this?

maybe you could email them your own designs?
Thanks again Ricochet, Dogbite and Oenyaw! I like the pickguard ideas.
OWA, thanks for your suggestion as well. I'm not sure what stickers would be age appropriate for me, so I'm not sure about doing that. Maybe my health insurance company!  However, I just remembered that my son knows a guy that does vinyl graphics, so maybe a cool Fender logo that I could put on the pickguard or something. I'll have to admit I'm a little hesitant to put it on the body of the guitar right now. I know, I'm a chicken.
Anyway, thanks again to all and keep the ideas coming if you want. I will definitely take all into consideration and post pics on whatever route I take.

Thanks for yet another great idea Biker Jim! How cool would that be!

I got a Double Fat Strat way back in November, which doesn't get play since getting the Jaguar.
The easiest thing to do is go to a hardware store and find some bumper stickers and stick those on. Some of them might be too big though

Sorry........couldn't resist. Think the last one is more for me.
