Im not sure if anyone has seen this before. But I was looking at a Zakk Wylde site and they showed a picture of the bridge of ZW's LPs. And he strings his strings OVER the stop bar. What would this do? And would it effect sound?
here is the picture.

That will decrease the break angle, thus the downforce, of the strings on the bridge. Not sure what tonal effect it'll have on a solid body electric. It can make a big difference on an acoustic or resonator.
"A cheerful heart is good medicine."
Quote from ZW in an interview - he says it helps prevent string breakage:
How are your guitars set up?
I set the tailpiece all the way down, close to the body, and I wrap the strings around the other way, like a wraparound bridge. It seems like that puts less stress on the strings and I never end up breaking any strings when I play live. I got hooked on doing it that way when I first joined Ozzy.
"Everybody got to elevate from the norm."
Ive seen Jimmi Page do that on a DVD. so it may be a tone thing.
if I do that on my resonator it will void the warranty.
I have only seen 2 slight downsides to this.
1) You lose a little sustain and
2) if you decide to go back to the straight through way then you may have to live with the 6 little lines you will eventually get on the top of the tailpiece.
It's kinda like a Bigsby without the trem!

Bigsbys string under, not over -- if one counts the bar directly behind the bridge.

I always string my Epi that way. I always thought that was the way it should be done. I never have a problem with sustain..... heck, most of the time I have to cut it short so I stay in time!

It just cuts it from a half hour to 15 minutes
To be honest I stringed one of LPs that way and I didnt lose any if much sustain. But I did notice I stayed in tune for a good 2 days of heavy playing. I think I am gonna string my stopbars that way from now on!
