Hello, all.
I bought my first twelve string on Thursday- nice axe, I must say.
Problem is, I don't have the foggiest idea about tuning it- the nearest I've got is damn near putting the bass E's in unison....which you're NOT meant to do, right? And once I've tuned it, what can I play to make it sound really good? Is there an arrangement of Tequila Sunrise with 12 in mind?
Thanks,
Shady
Take care,
Casey
Check out the "Double Your Pleasure" lesson on the GN main page. No Tequila, but it's a great intro to 12ers. Have fun!

Tuning?
The low E string pair through the G pair are tuned to the same note an octave apart.
The high e pair and the B pair are tuned exactly the same.

Thanks- I've got the high E and B pairs in now. How do I achieve the octave thing with the other strings? (I'm going to have to improve my musical ear, I can tell.)
Take care,
Casey
the higher string should be the same note as the lower fretted at 12
And this is certainly one of those times when having an electronic tuner is a blessing!

Man that's putting it lightly
My A/E Tak 12 has an onboard tuner along with the preamp and all built in and i can't believe how quick and easy it makes it.
#4491....
You might wanna consider tuning 1/2 or 1 step low to ease the stress on the neck. I had one (cheap) 12 string where the bridge was pulled up within a few months. I keep my present 12 tuned double flat. To me it seems to most jangle occurs when the B and G strings are played open.

Is that really likely to happen?
OK- thanks for the further advice on the string tuning.

Its just a possibility to think about, it happened to me so now I'm cautious.
I think it depends on the guitar. If you have a decent guitar, it's less likely to happen, I think.
