Just wanted to share a word of advice when it comes to playing along with the CD that accompany many books. Make sure to tune up to the tuning notes on the disc even if your guitar is in tune accordding to you tuner.

I was playing along with a CD over the weekend and kept wondering what I was doing wrong because every note I hit sounded off key. I thougth I was messing up the fingering but in actuallity I was out of tune with the CD.

Slight variations in the recording process, the playback process and a million other things can cause the recording on the CD (or tape for that mesaure) to be slightly out of tune to "normal".

Yeah I was noticing that to. I'm using the Hal Leonard method book.

Yeah. Actually, in some cases artists will intentionally tune up, very slighlty. I think Layla is tuned up just a tad.

It's rather common to find them tuned down, too.
