Okay, I bought a Godin Freeway classic, and now need to decide on an amp. I've heard that SS's are getting pretty close to tube, but many people say that tube's are still the undisputed king. I was thinking about something along the lines of a peavey classic 20 or 30. My budget is 400-500 canadian. Doesn't have to be over the top loud, mainly for practicing and maybe doing some small jams with friends. I'd be playing anything rock, from hard to soft and somewhere inbetween like classic rock. Opinions? Oh, and here are some pics of the guitar

Congrats man! What a nice looking guitar! I you don't mind me asking, (I have horrible GAS) how much was it??

Okay, to the point.... Yes, you should go tube IMO if you can afford it. I've heard good things about the Classic 30, and undercat could probably give you advice, as he has one of those. 30 watt's *might* be a bit loud for practicing, but an attuenator will sort that out... But, the Peavey is a little over your budget, and with an attuenator, it's way over it. Another good amp is the Fender Blues Junior. Don;t know much about it, but it seems to be pretty good... Plus it's 15 watts all tube(tube is alot louder than SS) rather than 30 watt for the Peavey. It should easily get over drums, but will be more reasonable for practicing...

Here's are the links: the Peavey http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/fg=121/g=guitar/s=amps/search/detail/base_pid/481360/

The Fender (Blonde and Black): http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/fg=121/g=guitar/s=amps/search/detail/base_pid/480491/ and http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/fg=121/g=guitar/s=amps/search/detail/base_pid/480512/

Happy buying! :)

thanks yoyo. It was 500 canadian +tax, which included an awesome set up from the 12th fret (Anyone in canada and specifcally toronto should know of this store) brand new. I didn't really do a whole lot of shopping around for prices because I know 12th is pretty honest in their prices, but I hope i didn't over pay too much =P Either way I'm quite happy.

Edit: I have heard good things about the fender blues pro and blues jr...I just kind of assumed they were leaning towards blues-ey players. I could be wrong in this assumption :?: I was hoping maybe I could get a peavey 20 but they appear to be no longer made??

The peavey classic 30 sounds like it would fit your needs.

The fender blues jr. needs to be cranked, if you want overdriven tones, out of it, without a pedal. Which will really be too loud for practice. But it is a great amp.

Another amp to look at is a Carvin vintage 16. I've never tried one, but the clips sound really good.
