1. Again there is no hard/fast rule on this. I always found acoustic strings lasted a bit longer for me, perhaps due to the style of play (less bends, no whammy, typically higher gauge). Personally I never let a set of strings on a guitar I play often last longer than 6 months. I usually change around the 2-3 month mark but this depends based on style of play, your ear, and the player.

2. Some people swear by humidifiers. I subscribe to the belief that they can sometimes do more harm than good. The fast humidity changes that would happen every time you take the guitar out of the case can be worse than the gradual ones that happen over time without a humidifier. I'm not an expert on this matter, I just know that it's up for debate whether they are important or not.
