buzz from new pickups?

Hi, Ive recently fixed up an old battered flying V. before I started working on this, it made a horrible squealing buzz when the amp was run on distortion. this noise isnt feedback, & it happened regardless of whether I was touching the strings.

I assumed this was something to do with the old pickups, but when I got it back with the new pickups the same thing was happening. Im guessing this has something to do with the pickups not grounding themselves properly but this is really just a guess, I might be completely wrong

can anyone tell me whats happening & if theres any way to reduce it?

Cheers - Jack

It sounds as if there may be a short circuit somewhere.
Just a thought - have you tried another amp cable?

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

Im pretty sure its not the cable, I only have the one cable, but I use it for my other guitars & bass, & it works fine for them.

How would I cehck if it was a short circuit?
