Hey!  Think small dogs.  My dachshunds have never bothered one of my guitars.  Sometimes one of my guitars might scare them (by getting swung too close) but never the other way around.   ;D

Oh, Taso, just get a String Swing and hang it on the wall! 8)  (I've got even more expensive guitars that have stood the wall test for years and look perfect!)  Put it in a place where it won't get direct sunlight.  (None is preferable if you don't want the finish to change, unless it is a natural finish, then it can take an hour or so daily).  That way it is off the floor and ready to grab at a moment's notice for jamming.  While playing, get yourself a stand, so that you can put it someplace while you are fiddling with books or the computer or whatnot during practice.  Then when you are done, back on the wall it goes.

As to a stand, certainly the salesman can help you out at the store.  If you are only going to use it for resting on during practice and not as living space, then any stand will do.  Supposedly, the ones with real rubber like the Warwick Rockstands will not mar.  I have used an On-stage Stands for some cheaper guitars without any problems, but I did just buy a Rockstand suitcase style today.  It's really cool, but it holds 5 guitars (less with acoustics and that may be more than you need.  Warwick also makes a 3fer (not suitcase style)with the good rubber that would hold 3 electrcis or an electric and and acoustic, which is what I was going to buy until I found the suitcase.

Personally, I have never had any problems over the years even with ultra cheap stands in terms of staining.  Falling over -- well that is another issue.  I prefer a stand that holds the neck and is very stable!!!

Best wishes!

I read in a guitar mag (can't remember which) that you should make sure that the stand you are using or want to use does not have rubber ( surgical rubber particularly) or vinyl tubing pads or padding as this type of padding will react and soften a lacquer finish, this also goes for a Capo or a guitar strap such as vinyl, the finish can be scarred and ruined, leather, cloth and non peteroleum based padding like felt is ok. Article related that some very fine guitars that had been left on the stand and in the case for an extended period had been irreversably damaged using peteroleum and rubber based padding.
