gibson sg - snapped headstock -unthreaded machine head holes

I have taken up the job of putting back together a gibson sg, i have repaired the neck and was waiting to see if the tention would hold out on the repair when i discovered that the threads for the machine heads appear to have gone. my first impression is to fill in the old holes and redrill them. has anyone done this before and know the best way to do it?
