I own an Ibanez JEM7V and all of a sudden my volume knob stopped working while I was playing it. I have not dropped my guitar or anything like it, neither have manipulated the electrical system. The knob seems to be a little bit loose and when I try to twist it it will not move, feels like I dont know how the cables got sort of rolled up on each other because the bridge pick up moves a little bit when I try to turn the knob, it is stuck on volume 10 and will not move. Also the signal is barely present. Any suggestions?
I have a feeling the volume pot is broken or stuck.
is the guitar old?
replacing a pot is not too difficult if you know how to solder.
have you opened up the guitar to look inside?
check to see if any wires are loose or have come free of the solder connection.
it the shaft on the pot does not move, or moves freely without effect then the pot needs to be replaced.
sometimes the set screw on the volume knob itself comes loose. you need a small screw driver to tighten it.
also, some knobs do not have a set screw; they have a tight friction fit over the knurled pot shaft.
hope this helps.
If the pickupis moving it sounds like the knob is spinning the whole pot around. It might be loose. I do think it needs to be looked at inside.
