I've recently come into possesstion of an ancient Kimberly violin bass. The Action is sky high. I've straightened out the neck as much as I could (there's still a little bit of a bow to it, but nothing spectacular) and I think I can get it lower at the bridge. However, the bridge is the lowest it can go and not in the greatest shape.
Does anyone know A) if I can buy a new bridge and where or B) how else can I go about fixing this? All feedback is welcome.
Those are hard to find. eBay has one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4713&item=7325864620&rd=1
And also the Hofner site has them.
Also take note of the angle of the neck. If it's a bolt-on type neck, you might be able to shim the neck a little to make the whole thing tilt downwards a couple of degrees. That would get the strings closer to the frets and let the bridge actually come up a little bit and not be at its lowest position.
Good luck.
Thanks Demo...that's the one all right...
I have shimmed the neck a bit...if I shim it anymore it buzzes on the frets. I'm still tinkering and learning as I go, and I'd like to get a new bridge because the old one is a little iffy and not the greatest quality. We'll see how it goes. I'll kepp y'all posted
where do i find them on the Hofner site? I dont see anything
Oh I'm sorry, it wasn't Hofner, it was here:
