Speakers can also cause this behavior. If any type of damage to the voice coil or pole piece, say from the rubbing from being mis-aligned or maybe at one time it got to hot. Perhaps even a cracked or cold solder joint. Unfortunately, a solder connection is often use to make both the electronic as well as the mechanical connections. What happens is when a little pressure is applied over and over adding mechanical stress and repeated heating and cooling cycles. Can weaken joints or connections.

Something to consider.

I cleaned everything with contact cleaner and viola! amp fixed. I am pretty sure it was the master volume pot that wasn't working.

mcdouggy I am used to getting inside electronics from my ham radio experience, so I wasn't worried about that.
