what kind of guitar? electric? acoustic? how old is it?
generally, the rattle comes from the nut. but it could be a tuner a saddle. lots of things.

Its an acoustic guitar I think its the nut because the low E string is dug in to the nut deeper then the other strings.

many times the nut's glue, if there were any to egin with, dries and the nut is loose. the vibration of the lower strings causes a very small amount of movement...but to our ears it sounds like a death rattle.
you could remove all the strings and find out.
the other thing is, as you noticed, the low E string is deep into the nut. that will cause a rattle.
remedy? I don't know, becuase it has never happened to me.

It's not that deep in the nut its is a little bit deeper then the other's but enuff to be noticed if you look and study it.

Nuts seem to be a common source for rattles.

How old is the rattle? Has it always been there, or is it something that's just started? If it's just started, then you need to think about what might have come loose- made any adjustments recently? Or knocked it on something?

Aside from that, my experience is that if something is rattling, it's usually the nut. If it's come loose, and the piece itself is moving, it can be glued back.

If the strings are carving deep enough into it to rattle back and forth, it probably should be replaced. I had some success putting a match stick under a nut (to raise it) for a while, but had to replace it eventually...

If you strike the "problem note) then move your ear slowly around the guitar while it resonates, you may be able to find where, if not why, it's rattling...

Best,
Ande

this one is probably beyond me, at least without seeing it, and probably even then.

I wonder if it's hitting a higher fret? If you watch the string very closely, you may see what it's hitting.

Doesn't sound like a nut thing, if all the strings involved are fretted higher up.

If it were me, I'd just stop fretting the 10th fret on the E string when playing the A. ;-)

Does it matter what note you play on the A string?

Best,

Ande
