Busy old week in the Sunday Songwriter's Group.....some good songs, and a couple of good MP3's from Bob and Katreich - they've set a high standard!

Anyway, this is a first draft - I fully intend adding electric guitar, bass, drums and organ to this before the week's through.

All feedback gratefully received!

Another keeper Vic!

I'm thinking you could possibly raise the key a couple of notches; sounds like you're mostly in the low range of your voice and I've heard you go up there a bit more.

Or...alternate verses or half-verses between the low voice to where you jump up - maybe between verse/chorus; just so there's more variety in the vocal melody. I'm sure you could jump an octave easily.

I love the acoustic guitar sound too - nicely done on that.

Cheers!

Nicely done Vic!!! :D

I really dig rough cuts and first takes.
A huge fan of that Dylan Demo sound.

I was getting the feeling of Donovan on this one - not a bad thing IMO.(The Psychedelic background on my windows media
could have influenced that as well  )

Maybe you'll get lucky and have Zep as your backing band like Donovan had on Hurdy Gurdy Man!!!!

I like DemoEtc's idea on the alternating vocal range.

hey Vic. I really like the open G tune.
the lyrics in your new post are very good; powerful. I am confused by the folk style rhythm.
it does not match the power of the words IMO.
the open G tune rhythm would however.

Another good one Vic! 8) It'll be interesting to hear after you put the finishing touches on it too.

Rick's got a point about the vocals - definitely at the bottom of my comfort range. I tried running through it with a capo on the 2nd fret and I was much more comfortable. However it makes the electric guitar I was going to add a little trickier...going to have to play Dmaj7 and Emaj7th higher up the neck. Trickier, but not impossible - and obviously the bass line is going to be two semitones higher as well, as will be the keyboard lines. Oh well - better get practising! Thanks as always for feedback!

(Original chords are posted under "Masquerade" in the Sunday Songwriter's Forum....by the time I got around to changing a few things, I'd got the music done, so threw the chords in with the lyrics.)

very sweet as always Vic.

You write songs that seem like they could be hits, for real dog.

The lead guitar melody is very catchy, vocals sound great as always, but the idea of raising the key ain't bad!

Thanks for sharing Vic.
