Dash For Short (my band) has put out a new album.

Title- "The Dragon, Not the Dinosaur"

I hope you enjoy. If you want to buy it just e-mail me or PM me or whatever.

Music can be heard at:
http://tde.dmusic.com/

Thanks

It was recorded in 1 day (yesterday, saturday, february 13, 2005) with 2 microphones into a TEAC tape deck. The tape was then transferred to the computer by me.

Enjoy.

Hey T$

I like your stuff. You've got some skills with that guitar man.

I think many of the tracks needed the vocals brought up (volume) and just mixing in general though. I had to turn my speakers way up for the songs.

Backwater wasn't really my style. The screaming kind of turned me off. Kind of catchy though.

Boneyard is cool. Again, needs the vocals turned up a bit. Cool tune, sounds kind of silly. I like it though.

I'm not altogether sure what Mi Amor was.

Midnight was also really catchy. Can't hear the vocals too well again. I like it though, good stuff.

I love the Not about Blues song, love that tone (took some getting used to though) Was that all guitar? Or did you have a harmonica in there too?

Of Pirates was cool. Like the rhythm there with the 'singing' part, also with the rest of it.

I liked the tune on Sunshinin. Not sure if I liked the vocal part. The guitar sounds great though. Drums needed to be mixed better I think. I'm not sure exactly, I'm not good with the technical stuff.

Lost Caravan- I notice (I felt this in other places) I very slight ability to relate your voice to Mick Jaggers in Mother's Little Helper (not saying this is a bad thing, just interesting I guess?). Cool tune, liked this one.

It all just needs to be mixed a litlte bit better. Cool tunes, lots of catchy stuff, nice guitar work in general. The blues one was my favorite.

Cool stuff T- Dogg

Whoah man! That's sounds totally garage! Which I think is why it sounds so cool. I think you did a great job using only two mics. It sounds great(in a garage kinda way)! Better (more listenable) than some of the multitrack stuff I've heard. Reminds me of classic punk. Nice work.

Yeah, I like most of it. Its just raw. I would like to be able to fix some mixing but I can't. Oh well.

Next album (next week) will be better mixed. We might do the same songs but probably not. We have a lot of other material to do.

Thanks for the kind words both of you.

Its all guitar on that one Anastasios.

Thanks for the constructive criticisms, I definitely did think early punk (mainly on "boneyard valentine").

Any tips for recording next time would be appreciated. I hope to have a multi-tracker or something by next time. That or a couple mics and a USB interface that can handle 4 or more tracks at a time. If anyone can help me on this point it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

PS- The wierd thing is we have already turned a profit on this album (thats in 1 day). We have made about 12 bucks or so and that was with 8 cassettes. I made 8 CDs and im taking them to school tomorrow, im gonna make some more soon. Its a lot of fun to sell your own stuff. I never thought anyone else would want to listen to anything ive ever done, I guess i was wrong.

Awesome that its all guitar on the blues one. Sounds like a harmonica at times. Really cool.

I just made some t-shirt designs too. Dang we are kinda getting serious. A friend of mine offered to make t-shirts for us, real kind of him. Check them out.

The pics are a bit large so i don't wanna load down this page so i just put up URLs. Check em out.

Our bands name is Dash For Short. We might change it someday soon. We don't really know yet though.

Seriously cool, man. Kind of Tom Waits meets Lou Reed over too much Tequilla vibe. I really enjoyed most all of it.

One way we have used to get around the 2 track editing limitation when recording live is to record one key part, say the vocal if there is singing or the guitar on an instrumental, on one mic and the room on the other mic (it also gets around the fact that we don't have a PA for the mic). Then you can bounce them together in a stereo mix, with both now in each channel. It's not the ideal stereo situation, but at least you have some control over the mix. Don't forget that you can also then take these two tracks into the computer and, using Audacity or whatever, adjust the EQ or add some compression or reverb to the vocal... or, add any additional tracks you want to flesh it out.
