I found a used MD recorder on Ebay for $11 and decided to buy it. These things are amazing! Definitely an improvement on my old method.
Here is me playing with my new toy. This is a song that was adapted from a Bob Dylan bootleg by a fantastic bluegrass band called Old Crow Medicine Show.

I think there is some more to be learned as far as sensitivity is concerned. It came with a nice stereo condenser mic but the guitar seems to make it pop every once in awhile. I'll have to keep toying with it I think. Also, the recording was just a quick, off the cuff kind of thing. The guitar is way too simple in my opinion and I need to find a way to pretty it up.
That's odd, it's working fine for me. The address is correct. It should pop up a download box or play in your browser when you click on it.
Pete,
It worked for me,nice playing and you definitely have the voice for this song sounds good. The Rock me momma part could use a bit of work at least the first time it comes up.
Otherwise very nice.
PS - You'll get extra points if your a "Husker" fan.
"It's all about stickin it to the man!"
It's a long way to the top if you want to rock n roll!
it works now. go figure. you have a great voice for this. would you mind if I put some lap slide behind your stuff?
not right away, but eventually. I would enjoy a colaboration.
you are a talented player singer. your guitar work is similar to mine, but your vocals run circles around my cracky voice.
ahh one of my favorite old crow songs. You know they wrote all of the verses, bob dylan sung the chorus on a bootleg with verses that noone could understand.
As for your recording the rhythm guitar is good. On verse 3 there are some dynamics during the "Walking to the south out of roanoke" part. The guitar should change rhythms and essentially stop until the "I got to get a move on" part when it should jump right back in to the standard rhythm. It does a lot to hold interest during that third verse. Also if dog ever does add lap steel you should put the breaks back in, I could play mandolin and sing too if you want.
I think you have a good voice and you sing the song well, but you are not singing it with enough feeling. During the parts like "at least I will die free" you have to be bearing your soul out there.
Anyways nice job, I sing this song with my friends often.

Nice
BTW I like this a lot 8) nice Tune :D Wish I could do somthing like this
Thanks again for the compliments. And I would love to collaborate! Please feel free to add to it or let me know if you want me to rework something. Speaking of, I recorded another version trying to take into account what you said Dneck. This version has little more tempo too.

Any idea how to get rid of those random pops?
*Edit:
Actually, I like this one better:
I like the way you sing on version 3. Your voice is has a clear bell like tone, great for singing bluegrass. I tried to sing like Jay Clifford for my first few years, so I have trouble singing without vibrato.
Thats better on the guitar for verse 3 too, still not quite how I play it but that doesn't matter. I could upload a mp3 if your interested, but I think that people should interpret covers on their own anyways.
Honestly this is one of the best covers i've seen up here, I didn't find myself wishing I was listening to the real thing. (probably the worst thing that can happen during a cover) so great job!
Some other Old crow songs I really enjoy playing are "Take away these chains" and "Cocaine." I always wanted to learn "I hear them all" do you know if anyone has tabbed it out?

Oh and as for the pop that your noticing. Condensers are very sensitive to air movement. You should buy a Pop filter, basically its pantyhose stretched over a circle but it stops the air movement and will keep away the pops.
For a temporary fix, angle your mic so that it is not pointing directly into the sound hole. Lately I have been moving my mic's further and further away, it seems like you can get a more vibrant full sound with a little distance between you and the mic.
