I've been looking at soundcards a lot lately (not much fun, but neccessary) It has come to my attention that many soundcards come with a MIDI port (also can be used for games?).

Can this be used to connect a midi keyboard? If so how? (I'm looking at the post, looking at a midi connection cable, thinking that theyre not the same shape...)

Any thoughts would be good

Thanks

Peter

Peter,

Yes these can be used as a MIDI interface. You can get a special cable
for about $20 that will hook up to the game port and give you MIDI in
and out. Word of warning, if you can afford to get a USB MIDI interface
get one, I have had alot of problems with sound card MIDI interfaces.
They are pretty good at sending MIDI data, but have trouble with input.
USB midi interfaces start at around $40, and will handle MIDI correctly.

Thankyou. I don't intend to do huge amounts with midi, so I guess I'm not really prepared to spend $40 yet. However, if I find that I need better handling of midi I shall certainly look into getting a USB connector.
