I have Cubase (Version 5 I think??). Whilst recording Audio, for example my guitar, it has an echo, well, more of a delay, which plays the note back a second or so after I've played it. I can understand why it does this, but it causes great problems when I'm trying to record something as OI get this playback which confuses me as I play.

Do you know what I'm talking about or is this nonsense? Is there a way to turn this off?

Please help!

Thankyou

Peter

There are a couple of things that can cause this. If you are using any plugins and your asio latency is high, this can be a problem. If you are using "tape type" monitoring. Asio latency is the big one. Really it's at the root of any delay problems. Go to options/audio setup/system. Check Asio direct monitoring. Choose Record enabled type. Check plug-in delay compensation. Apply. This may not solve your problem. If you are using a soundblaster card to record you may have to opt for different drivers.

These third party drivers can lower the latency to 20ms which is hardly noticeable. Be carefull tho and experiment. With this software too low of a latency can cause pops and clicks to appear in your recording. Once you have installed the software(Read all the documentation. You'll need to.) go back to options/audio setup/system in cubase. go to Asio control panel and adjust your latency. Check and make sure you're using kx asio.

Alternately if all else fails go to options/audio setup/system and select didable audio. This will disable audio on the track you are recording only. The only thing is you'll have to be sure that your levels are good before you start recording.

Thankyou, I shall try that and see what happens. I'm a bit cautious of changing drivers for my sound card, as the last time I tried to do things with drivers I ended up destroying our computer, the whole thing had to be formatted, windows had to be re-installed etc. I was not the most popular person around for a few months after that...

One major thing that I totally overlooked. Go to the speaker icon in the bottom right hand corner of your screen and right click/select open volume controls/ got to options/properties/ recording/ make sure that "What you hear" is not selected. Select mic or line depending on how you are recordign and the delay should disappear.
