I like it because you can hook up a mixer to it. I've had it over a tear now with no problem :D

Gonna put in a plug for the Line 6 toneport UX-1. I've used an M-Audio Delta 44. It's a great card. Lot's of headroom decent A/D conversion. Not great sounding but considerably better than most people are accustomed to in their SoundBlaster cards. You'll need an external preamp or mixer with preamps for this one or I've heard a considerable amount of good regarding the EMU cards. Great A/D conversion. Great sounding. In regards to the "hardware" effects though, this is not like the UAD cards which have a seperate processor that runs vsts within your DAW. The effects work very similar to what you would find using a Soundblaster card using KXasio drivers. That is you set up the effects in the cards mixer options and that's what gets recorded in your DAW. Now I'm not saying this is necessarily bad but it sure is a pain. Another thing I've noticed is that many people have had latency problems with past ASIO drivers for the lower end EMU cards. I believe this has been rectified.

Anyway, back to the UX-1. I bought this interface from MUSIC123 now I did have to wait an entire 4 months to actually get my product but now that I have it, it's a great little box. The hardware amp emulation is controlled through Gearbox which is a software GUI. the amp emulations are pretty incredible. And yes I've heard the POD pro and XT. This easily compares. The cool thing is that the amps are so tweakable. On top of that editing parameters on a 17" screen is much easier than scrolling through menus on a .5 x 3" lcd or LED screen. The unit has two line inputs 1 instrument level input and 1 mic level input. The UX-1 is actually the little brother of the UX-2 which has the added features of two analogue level meters and phantom power for the mic input as well as a footswitch input. That being said, if you got to Line 6's site and check out the audio examples you will notice that all of the examples were recorded using the UX-1. Of course there were other factors involved such as the use of a pro mixer an Logic Pro as a DAW. Still pretty impressive.

You can hear some of my examples at http://hue.dmusic.com check out Testing 1 2 3 it's the only one I've used the toneport with so far. The rest are on an M-Audio Delta 44

I use a MOTU ultralite. Picked it up for about $550. It's a firewire interface and works great. It has 10 channels with is more than I will ever probably need. I've only used about 5 that are deadicated to various instruments/mics. The pre-s are pretty good. All in all, I'm happy with my MOTU. The build quality is top notch. It's really a solid piece of equipment

cool Dave. I am getting near close.

the computer is up and running.
at the moment I am fixated or driven to get my mini disc recordings loaded in. I found a device that lets me plug in to the computer from my cd/minidisc deck.

I cant hear what is being uploaded, I am not sure of some of the recording settings (Im so new I dont have a good grasp of the language yet).
question, Im thinking of running the cd/minidisc deck thru an amp or amp/reciever. I think then I could hear what I am uploading.

remember I am a dinosaur that just emerged from the water and am learning to walk before I crawl.

Hi , You should be able to connect the CD/Minidisc players line out or headphone 1/8" jack to the soundcards 1/8" line input jack with a 1/8 " miniplug stereo cable.
Before you try to record anything, learn how to use Windows Record and Playback controls.

Tanglewood TW28STE (Shadow P7 EQ) acoustic
Yamaha RGX 320FZ electric guitar/Egnater Tweaker 15 amp.
Yamaha RBX 270 bass/Laney DB 150 amp.

Kalle in Sweden. you are right about reading the info. I am.

the sound card has several plug ins. one is light green designated for speakers...there are two others. I need to identify them.

all this feedback is helping.

Pink is mic, blue is line(or is it yellow?), black is digital output.
